Christian. Israeli. IDF Officer.

The phenomenon of Israeli Christian enlistment to the Israeli army continues to expand. This time it’s an officer! And a girl!

For Israeli Jews finishing high school, service in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is mandatory. But growing numbers of Arabic-speaking Christians are joining forces with their Jewish countrymen.

Some of these brave young Christian men and women receive death threats and are beaten by local Arabs who regard their IDF service as treasonous. Read one young soldier’s testimony here and the troubles Arab politicians are giving these young dedicated Christian soldiers. The situation got so bad that the Israeli Knesset (parliament) passed a bill designed to protect Christians who enlist in the Israeli army.

Christians Bring Golden Menorah From Rome To Jerusalem

“The seven-branched menorah is a symbol of the State of Israel,” said Luca-Elias Hezel, who initiated the project. “For us, it is a symbol that speaks louder and more meaningful than all words.”

He said the menorah, modeled after the menorah depicted on the Arch of Titus in Rome, is being given to the Jewish people with “a broad heart and in solidarity” and as a gift on Israel’s 71st Independence Day.

On its website, the Menorah Project explains its vision: “As the Jewish people need to publicly deal with injustice and robbery, we want to publicly bring back the menorah from Rome to Jerusalem.”

Today, in Rome, one can still see a replica of the menorah at the Arch of Titus, which serves as a reminder of the Roman Empire’s triumph over the Jews in Judea and their conquest of Jerusalem. The Romans destroyed the Jewish Temple in 70 CE.

City of David: Bringing Bible to Life

When the Temple stood atop the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, every Jew was obligated to contribute annually a silver half shekel coin for its upkeep. Upon the beka was engraved, in ancient Hebrew script, the word “beka.” In the Bible, the beka is mentioned in the context of collecting the half-shekel contribution given by the Israelites, which was also used as a means of conducting a national census.
